Can you believe it is almost here?
New York Fashion Week (officially known as Mercedes Benz Fashion Week), will kick off this Thursday morning and in honor of this fabulous event, I thought I would share a few of my personal fashion week firsts.
Here we go!
Here we go!
1999 or 2000 ish?
As an awkward adolescent, I learn to scour the pages of Vogue looking at fashion week photos, probably whilst listening to "Hit Me Baby One More Time" courtesy of Miss Britney Spears. Yohji Yamamoto was my favorite designer at the time. (??) I would cut out his photos and tell my friends about him. I'm sure they were thrilled. I learned about Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington, and dreamed about going into modeling so I could be closer to fashion.
2008 or 2009 ish?
I watched Giuliana Rancic host E! News from across the street at Fashion Week and thought, "I'm going there!! I want to be there!! I could totally talk about fashion like her! Why am I not THERE?"
2010
I bribed my friends to pretty please please go to New York with me during Fashion Week. We will just show up and be on the front row, right??
September 2010
I traveled to NY with my friends Victoria, Ashley and Laura - we had absolutely no idea how fashion week worked. Laura and I squealed when we finally stumbled upon Lincoln Center and definitely took our picture in front of the sign. We were so excited! We caught a glimpse of a show and thought we were pretty much big time. Giuliana, I'm herrrrre!!!! Then we had lunch and went shopping on the shoe floor at Saks.

February 2011
This time I went with Laura and our friend Sara, (Sare Bear) and we actually went to shows, and saw ANNA WINTOUR. PAUSE FOR REACTION. We couldn't wrap our brain around the fact that we were at a fashion show that Anna Wintour was also at. I sent the picture I snapped of her to everyone who I thought would appreciate it. I could barely go to sleep that night.
I started getting my Vogue subscription when I was 16, and now I'm at a Fashion Show and Anna Wintour is sitting there in her fur and sunglasses. Is this real life?

By now, Laura and I are so in our fashion week groove we frequently forget to eat until 10 pm, and our days might be 15 hours long. What is sleep?
