Recently my makeup artist friend Mikki and I decided to play around with some new makeup colors, and test out a few new products.
Here’s a little breakdown of the look we created and also a little about my new fall makeup routine:
Step 1: Now that summer is officially over and the complexion is a little dull, I’ve been making sure to get out the Power Glow Peel from M-61. You can pick this up at Bluemercury, and it was designed by the Bluemercury founder herself, Marla. In fact when I interviewed her at the BlueMercury Buckhead grand opening I asked what her #1 favorite product was, and this was it! She said it’s perfect for even if you had a late night the night before but need to look fresh in the morning. (NOTE: Use this product sparingly. It will burn a little bit, and then your skin will look amazing that day, but if you’re like me, over the next few days it can dry you out and bring impurities to the surface – so just know your skin type! It is an amazing product – just start very slowly with it at first. Read the reviews if I just made you nervous – everyone loves it!)
Step 2 & 3: Dolce & Gabbana Primer & Foundation: The Sheer Radiance Makeup Base Primer by Dolce & Gabbana has an SPF of 30, which is really good for a makeup primer. It moisturizes and smooths out your skin to get it ready for the foundation. Some makeup junkies are even declaring this primer the new must-have and wear it alone on light/no makeup days, for an instant moisturizing glow. Start by smoothing a dab of primer all over your face, and then follow up with a few dabs of foundation all over your face. I’m pretty fair, so I went with the “creamy 80” color for foundation. To make sure everything is even, Mikki recommends putting on both with a beauty blender. (Note: I’ve written about this before I think, but knock-off beauty blenders are so not even close to being the same as an actual beauty blender. It’s worth the splurge. I only know this because I was cheap and tried to buy the CVS version! It’s really bad.)
Step 4: We dusted on a bit of Laura Mercier highlighter in the T-zone for this look. No photo for this, but a big fluffy brush with a light tap in all the right places should do the trick. We love that this gives a good glow but with no visible “glitter” particles.
Step 5: We decided to layer the 2 Dolce & Gabbana “perfect mono cream eye colours” to get a little bit of depth. We put the “cocoa” layer closer to my lash line and “dahlia” more in the crease. A little goes a long way!!! Mikki recommends using the Mac 224 brush or something similar, and you do not need a ton on your brush to be able to blend this. But blending is indeed key.
Step 6: We used Stila eyeliner in “graphite” and Diorshow Iconic Overcurl mascara for this look. Both dark and smoky. Great for a fall look.
Step 7: We finished this look off with the Dolce & Gabbana “Dahlia” Classic Cream Lipstick color on my lips. I’ve been wanting to try a darker lip for fall and this one is a great deep plum shade. I won’t be wearing it all the time, but it’s fun to use it occasionally!
Step 8: Add a little Urban Decay makeup setting spray (not pictured) and you’re all set. Ta-da!
