I haven’t done a DIY post in forever, but this one I just couldn’t ignore. For whatever reason, I cannot get this “Do Not Disturb” hat out of my head! It’s probably just a case of spring fever, but I seriously have to get my hands on it. I’m envisioning a beach scenario with a good book, big sunnies, and the fabulous go away message scrawled on my big floppy hat. Of course, once I realized the hat in that pic above was $440, I decided there has to be a plan B. I can’t justify spending $440 on a hat, much less one that is intended to be on a beach with sunscreen stickiness.

Enter Plan B. I’ve had a ball researching the best floppy hats that have enough room for monogramming. While we’re at it, let’s change the phrase! I’m loving: “Very Busy,” “Hold Please,” “BRB” (be right back), or what about “Out Of The Office?” I could go on all day. Seriously there are so many good options, this is the perfect DIY project because everyone’s will be totally different. And like with all DIYs, the final product gets to be uniquely yours and only yours!

The Nordstrom hat I listed above actually isn’t my favorite, it just looks the most similar to the original Eugenia Kim option with free shipping. This Charlotte Russe option (shocker I know) is also almost identical, even with the same grosgrain ribbon. There are a couple I found on Amazon with bows to boot (here and here) that are crazy inexpensive. This one at Forever 21 is another super inexpensive simple one, if you like a smaller brim. I personally love a big floppy brim, and I love love love black and white for swimwear (and everything else let’s be honest) so I’m planning to buy this one from Macy’s. (This Target one is pretty much perfect – I’m just not 100% sure if it could get embroidered because of the material, but if you’re really crafty I bet you could even DIY the embroidery part by hand with those sequins in the original Eugenia Kim hat. Maybe?)

I’ve linked all the ones I tracked down that I think would be perfect for DIYing in the widget above. I am planning to take my hat to a local monogramming place (and then carefully adding material to the underside of the hat to cover the stitches), but I’m sure there are tons of ways you could adhere letters or otherwise get crafty with this project! After all, we’ve got 24 more days until spring is here…

Also, how fun would it be to have hats monogrammed like this for a summer wedding for bridesmaids? Or for a girl’s beach trip?? So many ideas…

Also, thank you so much for all of the sweet feedback from my last post! Yesterday was overwhelming with all your comments, emails, texts and phone calls! Thank you so much for your support and love! XO

Hi friends! I'm a Georgia based wife & mom. I started blogging in 2009 (!) and have covered a range of topics over the years, but in 2021 I am placing an emphasis on finding the good things to celebrate. In 2020 I think we have all learned to cherish time with family, enjoy the little things, and celebrate occasions big or small. I'll share special pieces I find that I believe can punctuate these days for the best. Reach out to me at tiffany@bloomstudiocreative.com if you'd like to get in touch! Thanks for stopping by! Take your shoes off and stay a while.
