2016: Changes so far …

Well, we are on the 11th day of the year … how are all your goals and resolutions coming along? Is everyone super organized, thin, drinking lots of water, and saving all their money? Hehe:) I kid, I kid, but statistically by now most people have fallen off the bandwagon, no matter which bandwagon they were on. So today I thought I’d share 3 changes I’ve made so far this year or am working on, that are small but BIG!

One. Unroll.me.  Um, why am I just now doing this!!!!?????? Last Wednesday night I sat down to really get my inbox fully cleaned up and reorganized for a new year. For me this involves making sure my folders are up-to-date with the current projects I’m working on, and doing a lot of deleting and unsubscribing. I sat at the kitchen counter doing this while Charles was watching a game on tv and about every 30 minutes I would say “I’m so close! Almost there!” And he cheered me on. Kind of funny. Anyway, about halfway through the process I remembered hearing lots of people always say how great unroll.me is. I had put it on a mental to-do list – I’ll get to that one day when I have time to figure out how to use it. Um, no. It take 5 seconds.  There is no figuring out how to use it. Here’s how it works: You type in your email address, and within seconds, it scans your entire inbox and tells you everything you are subscribed to. Fabulous, but the next part is even better. It gives you 3 options for each subscription. 1)Keep in inbox, 2) unsubscribe, or 3) “roll it up.”  > Mind. Blown. < Yes, you can roll up all your random sale emails and fun pop culture stuff into ONE EMAIL. Then you choose what time of day you want it to come and you’re done. OMG. Life changed. Ps – it’s free. (What!) I had about 90 subscriptions for both my personal and work emails. Almost everything I either deleted or rolled up. Now when I open my email in the morning it is only the important emails, but I don’t have to miss out on my Vogue emails or Tibi sales either. It’s the best of both worlds. Seriously cannot believe I’m just now doing this! Update: there is also an app! Just discovered! Amazing!

Two. 3 days with no sugar. Did anyone else know that the more sugar you eat, the more you crave sugar????? What? Again, mind blown. How am I just now learning this pretty important nutritional info? (Maybe this explains why my “sweet tooth” never seems to have a day off.) There can be tons of sugar even in sneaky items like granola or salad dressing. I just discovered Maria Marlowe’s site through this post on IvankaTrump.com, and Maria has a free downloadable meal plan for 3 days of no sugar – aka a 3 day sugar detox. Charles and I started this today, and so far the smoothie (seen above) and salad for lunch have both been delicious!  Honestly, with my preference for all things sweet, I should probably do this about once a month to hit the restart button!

Three.  Staying organized around the home. I click on tons of random articles all the time, as I’m sure most of us do, promising “5 ways to always have a perfectly clean & tidy home!” or something of that nature. 99% of the time, the advice goes in one ear and out the other. But I read a few things several months ago that I’ve actually implemented and found helpful! (I wish I could find the article… it might have been this one.) For me, it boils down to these key areas: 1) With the amount of packages we receive, it is imperative to unpack the things and discard the packaging immediately. 2) We’ve started running the dishwasher every night and I unload first thing in the morning. That is definitely the most boring sentence I’ve ever written on this blog.  It’s a simple step that really does keep things organized in the kitchen. 3)Everyone knows that making your bed is the easiest way to make your bedroom feel tidy. All it took was finally getting my bedding/bed/pillows etc. updated and on point for me to LOVE to make my bed in the mornings. 4) I got this lipstick organizer & it is already getting my bathroom into order. There are tons of inexpensive acrylic organizers on amazon that can kickstart your organizing!

Still working to keep those resolutions in check? Write it down, talk about it on social media or get an accountability buddy. If you have no accountability and have told no one about it, it can disappear in a jiffy, am I right? Make sure your resolution is very specific and doable. In other words, if you have a vague goal like losing weight or getting organized, pick one specific & thing you can do to make those things happen then make that your mantra.

Hi friends! I'm a Georgia based wife & mom. I started blogging in 2009 (!) and have covered a range of topics over the years, but in 2021 I am placing an emphasis on finding the good things to celebrate. In 2020 I think we have all learned to cherish time with family, enjoy the little things, and celebrate occasions big or small. I'll share special pieces I find that I believe can punctuate these days for the best. Reach out to me at tiffany@bloomstudiocreative.com if you'd like to get in touch! Thanks for stopping by! Take your shoes off and stay a while.

I LOVE unroll.me! It’s so helpful, isn’t it? I’ve been using it since early 2015 and haven’t looked back. Also, on the sugar front – I’m with you. Starting to work on cutting it out today, in fact! Best of luck with the sugar cleanse :)
