As I mentioned on my Facebook page the other day, I have recently gone down a bit of a home decor rabbit hole. I can literally go months just ignoring little projects I want to do, and then once I start the ball rolling on something, pandora’s box has been opened. I start out looking for one thing and suddenly I’m contemplating ordering coastal dinnerware for summertime soirees. (Note: I have never thrown a summertime soiree.)
We need to reupholster a chair we inherited, so I’ve been stalking fabulous fabric. Of course the fabric I most fell in love with happens to be the most expensive fabric on planet earth. Exaggeration, but omg. You can stare at it here. I’m sorry, is the price a typo? I guess this is a normal price for designer fabric but I just can’t justify it. Hashtag help me Rhonda.
As I mourned the loss of fabrics that could be, of course I started down the rabbit hole of fabulous throw pillows, because once I realized the direction I wanted to take my new upholstered chair, I realized the current pillows on the couch are ALL WRONG. First of all they are totally wintery, super neutral, and blend in with the oatmeal colored couch. Color emergency. (Why has this not driven me crazy before now?) Enter stage left: tons and tons and tons of amazing throw pillows all over the internets:
Navy Channels / Palm / Greek Key / Leopard
Colorful cheetah / blue dots / tassels / blue print on sale!
Let’s take it one step further and break down my favorite places for pillows I found by cost. Depending on which room you are using this for, and if it’s seasonal, etc. you may want to spend more or less.
:: Expert Tip! :: One major tip I keep noticing, is a more expensive looking pillow is all about being very full and fluffy. No deflated, wrinkled, saggy pillows allowed. So one way to accomplish this is to fill your pillow cover with a down pillow form that is 2 inches larger than the pillow cover to fill out the corners and provide that more luxe look. I would also try to make sure the zipper looks mostly invisible. Also make sure to note if the insert is included or not, because often times it is not.
Steal ($)
- Amazon – I mean, you can find anything on Amazon so who is surprised? I stumbled across this greek key option (just the cover – seen in the first pic above) for only $9 plus shipping. You can find tons of inexpensive quickly shipped options if you need a quick fix.
- HM – Most of these are just the pillow cover, so you’ll want to provide your own inner cushion. These can range from silly sayings to fun prints that could totally mix and match with nicer options, or would be fun in a guest room, your office, or outdoors.
- Society 6 – Original fun prints and every purchase pays an artist. Love this palm print pillow.
- Zazzle – If monogrammed pillows on a budget are your jam, look no further. I also found some pretty fab greek key options.
Splurge a bit ($$)
- Lulu & Georgia – Can I have them all? The selection is amazing and I love that you can even search by size and/or down vs. polyester fill. There are too many fabulous options to just mention one. This one gets a golden star and is probably my favorite overall.
- Caitlin Wilson – I’ve followed her on instagram for a while so was happy to finally check out the whole site! Tons of great options. Love this one so much – I actually ordered a swatch of this one and will probably end up using that fabric for the aforementioned chair that needs to be upholstered. (I just need to pull the trigger and stop the continued search because I’m the kind of person that wants to see every fabric on the planet first before making a final decision.)
- Etsy – You can find some wonderful, original pieces here. I like to search “throw pillows” then select “handmade” and “made in America” to quickly weed out my options. I’ve had this one saved in my favorites for a while. This shop & this shop are both fan faves for pillows.
Splurge a lot ($$$)
- Furbish Studio – Everything from funny needlepoint pillows to gorgeous prints.
- Arianna Belle – Pricey but so pretty. I love this one.
- Emily McCarthy – Located in Savannah, GA, I’m partial to this shop! This custom print is so fun.
Local: If you’re in Atlanta, Forsyth Fabrics and Lewis Sharon are great places to look at fabric options.
Lee Jofa, Kravet, Schumacher, and Kelly Wearstler are some of the name brands you’ll be paying a little more for. So you may notice those names being dropped on places like Etsy.
Have you refreshed your throw pillows lately? I love when I start obsessing over something specific like this for a while because now I feel like a bit of an expert on something new! I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback!!
