Today I’m sharing a look that is a remix of some of my old favorites.
As it turns out, when you organize your closet & clean out stuff that needs to go, you can find tons of goodies that you forgot about. Novel concept! As you may have seen on snapchat (olsontiffany) on recent weekends, I’ve been working to re-organize my wardrobe recently, and it truly has been a long overdue game changer. To be honest, I really had not gotten out a lot of things I hid from myself when I was pregnant! I think I just forgot I had so many things in hiding.
Anyway, in my new closet re-organization, I made section of just midi-skirts. I can’t believe I haven’t done this before. They deserved a special honorary section don’t you think? It got me thinking about a few closet organization perks that might inspire you to do a little editing.
After a major closet re-organization and edit:
- You can find what you’re looking for so much quicker, which means you can get out the door quicker.
- You are more inspired to mix and match things you haven’t thought about pairing before.
- You don’t have to muddle through old things you never wear, which saves precious time.
- You can clear up a little bit of space which leaves more room for you to really SEE what you have. And did I mention your favorite things seem much more appealing when they aren’t crammed on a hanger in the back.
- You can “shop your closet” and find lots of goodies you may have forgotten about!
I think one thing that intimidates most people about a closet reorganization is the idea that you need to block off several hours or days to do it. According to the KonMari method, it is best to do a cleanup all at once. But according to the OlsTif method, (JK), breaking it up into smaller chunks when you have free time is better than nothing and it’s way less intimidating. I organized shoes a couple of weeks ago, then tackled skirts and dresses this past weekend, and I’ve been doing tops and bags a little here and there as I go.
There is no right or wrong way to do a closet edit, as long as you make a little bit of progress making your system work for you.
I wrote a blog post about how to decide exactly what stays and what goes all the way back in 2011, and I still think it is totally legit. You can read it here. // Update: CREEPY!!!! I just went to link that post, and it was written on this exact day 5 years ago, EXACTLY. WHAT. I must have a thing for editing my closet at this time of year.

I LOVE this outfit! And a midi skirt section? My favorite! I really should create one of those.
Thank you so much Gabriella!! I can’t believe I hadn’t separated them out into their own area yet – it has really made putting outfits together so much easier for me because I usually know right away if I’m looking for a long skirt, short skirt, midi skirt, etc. lol :) Thank you for stopping by!! xo
Ahhh love this! Re-organizing the closet is so scary!! I like doing the smaller chunks method too!! Not quite so overwhelming.
