DIY Painted Ornaments

untitled-2  untitled-5

I’ve been dying to do this DIY so I finally got all the supplies and made it happen this weekend as you probably saw on instagram stories. I haven’t taken the “after” photo of all of my ornaments together yet, so just stay tuned for that. In the meantime I wanted to share all of the things you’ll need for this DIY.

Supplies:

Here’s How To Do It:

This DIY is pretty self-explanatory. Just grab your brushes & paint and get to painting! I decided to kind of just start painting on each one and make up the plan for the pattern as I went. I think the biggest thing honestly to keep in mind (that I forgot about), is to make sure you have the colors you want before you get started. We just used paint we already had, and so I was left mixing up colors to get the vibe I wanted. If you can think about the colors that will go well together before you buy your paint, that will help you achieve the look you’re wanting a lot easier. Example: if you want all pastels, to go with a pastel tree, or all vibrant to go with your vibrant wrapping paper.

One other tip: don’t skimp on your paint brushes. My mom brought over some of her professional ones with big fluffy bristles (? is that the right word?) and they definitely worked better than my cheap kid’s-craft-aisle-at-dollar-store-I’m-assuming paintbrushes that I found in my craft closet.

One fun option: You can pour paint on the inside of the ornament to coat the glass – although you have to a little patient with the swirling. (You can add a tiny bit of water to make that go faster.)  Or you can just stick to painting the outside. Of course you can really get creative by adding glitter, and tying on pretty ribbons around the hooks too. The options are endless.

Once they are dry, spray them with the coating spray, so they won’t scratch. Plus this coat adds a nice shiny look. To let them dry after the clear spray, I actually hung mine from wire hangers on our chandelier in the kitchen! Random, but worked great.

Oh and yes, my paint tray was the lid from a casserole I bought at the Casserole Shop. LOL (See below. Just keeping it real!)

Hi friends! I'm a Georgia based wife & mom. I started blogging in 2009 (!) and have covered a range of topics over the years, but in 2021 I am placing an emphasis on finding the good things to celebrate. In 2020 I think we have all learned to cherish time with family, enjoy the little things, and celebrate occasions big or small. I'll share special pieces I find that I believe can punctuate these days for the best. Reach out to me at tiffany@bloomstudiocreative.com if you'd like to get in touch! Thanks for stopping by! Take your shoes off and stay a while.
