I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but between faux fur, faux leather, and funky fuzzy frocks, today’s trendy outerwear can end up looking super cheap, even if it’s actually expensive! It’s probably one of my biggest pet peeves for fall. I love my standby of “staple” outerwear pieces (pea coats in black, gray, etc), but many times in the colder months, all you see all day is everyone’s outerwear, so you want to have pretty and fun pieces too. Unfortunately that’s where the questionable pieces can sneak in. I’d like one dose of fun outerwear, hold the kitsch please.

I like to throw in a new fun piece of outerwear in the fall to supplement the staple pieces I’ve had for years. A couple of years ago it was a fuzzy leopard print number that ended up being super-duper versatile. This past year it was the crazy gray fur pictured above and I got tons of compliments on it! (It is H&M. Shh!) This year I’m thinking a poncho might be in order…
